A. Indefinite Pronoun (kata ganti tak tentu)
Indefinite pronoun adalah kata ganti tak tentu yang dipakai untuk menunjuk pada orang, benda atau jumlah yang tak tentu (belum diketahui identitasnya)
1. Indefinite persons
- Some one = seseorang
- Somebody = sesorang
- Anyone = seseorang
- Everyone = setiap orang
- Everybody = setiap orang
- No one = tak seorang pun
- Nobody = tak seorang pun
2. Indefinite things
- Something = sesuatu
- Anything = sesuatu
- Everything = segala sesuatu
- Nothing = tak satupun
3. Indefinite quantitier
Yang termasuk indefinite quantitier antara lain :
- All/all of = semua
- Both/both of = keduanya
- Each/eachof =masing - masing
- One/one of = satu/salah Satu
- Another = yang lain
- Any = beberapa
- None/none of = tak satu pun
Catatan :
· Someone/body/thing digunakan di kalimat positif
· Anyone/body/thing digunakan di kalimat negative dan kalimat Tanya
Contoh :
a. There is someone in the house
b. There isn’t anyone in the house
c. Is there anyone in the house?
· Verb untuk indefinite pronouns tersebut di atas kecuali both, adalah singular verb yaitu : is, V+s(es) (simple present tense), has+V3 (present perfect tense) dan was (simple past tense).
Contoh :
a. Everything is okay
b. Everyone needs food
c. Someone has just taken my book
d. Nobody was here last night
· Verb untuk both adalah plural verb, yaitu : are, V1(simple present), have+V3 (present perfect tense) dan were (simple past tense).
Contoh :
- Both of the girls are my classmates
· All/all of menggunakan singular verb jika diikuti uncountable noun dan plural verb jika diikuti countable noun
Contoh :
a. All of his money is in the bank
b. All of the student here are helpful
· Indefinite pronoun di atas kadangkala di gabung dengan adjective modifiers, misalnya dengan -else
- Somebody/one else = orang lain
- Something else = sesuatu yang lain
